Map to Salmon HAUS

The Salmon HAUS is located in the city of Soldotna, Alaska, at 847 River Estates Drive. Most guests fly directly into Anchorage, rent a car for the 2 1/2 -hour (140 mile) drive to the Soldotna/Kenai area.

A scenic 30 minute commuter flight is available out of Anchorage to Kenai. The Salmon HAUS is 10 miles from the Kenai airport where rental vehicles are available. Private planes can fly into the Soldotna airport, just 3 miles away.

What to bring...

We recommend you bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a camera, film, a warm jacket and sweatshirt, warm boots, wool socks, gloves, hat, rain gear (jacket and pants), and slippers (the Alaskan custom is no shoes indoors). Local stores can provide anything you might forget.

Daytime temperatures can range from 50F to 75F between May and October. It is quite cool in the mornings, so plan on layering your clothing.

Guides provide fishing tackle. For afternoon fishing, please bring your favorite rod and reel. Salmon HAUS has some spinning rods available for guests.

For those not fishing...

There are many things to do on the Kenai Peninsula other than fish. The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters is only a few miles away, and offers excellent hiking and sightseeing. Excursions are available to the Kenai Fjords National Monument, sightseeing for whales, Arctic and Subarctic birds, and other wildlife as well as a 26 Glacier Tour. The Swanson River system is known for its canoeing.

A pair of resident eagles can be spotted making their daily excursions just outside Salmon HAUS, along with an abundance of other bird species. The pregnant moose below was photographed about a week before she gave birth in the area between the house and the river.

Moose can be seen out the back window...

You can also relax on the deck, and enjoy reading in a relaxing environment; or watch satellite TV or the VCR/DVD in the guest lounge.

There is shopping in Soldotna, Kenai and Homer. Shops specialize in unique Alaskan gifts.
