We support the "Release a Hog" program to save the big King Salmon. Fish with a Kenai River Sportfishing Association member guide and you are eligible. Catch a 50-inch or more King Salmon and the guide will take a picture of the King in the net and certify the catch and release. KRSA will then give you $800 toward a replica mount for your den. Rainbow Trout
A 26 inch long Rainbow Trout was caught by Butch Hee on an Upper Kenai River drift boat trip. I was with him and Mike and it is one of my favorite trips. They have done this "catch and release" fishery every year for over 11 years. Sockeye Salmon spawn in these areas and the Rainbow Trout feast on the eggs. This all day trip produces from 20 to over 80 hook ups of Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden in a drift boat for four fisherman. It is quiet and the river travels through a pristine area. Cameras are a must as are the lunch and cookies provided by the guide. This is a magnificent trip for the skilled and unskilled alike. The guide provides everything needed for fishing. The trip I schedule goes down through the canyon where this fish was caught. The upper Kenai is a sanctuary area, no motorized boats are permitted, and the number of boats is limited enhancing your wilderness experience.
